As the athletics year draws to a close, Craughwell AC would like to wish all of its members a very happy Christmas and a successful New Year. It was another wonderful year for the club with the ongoing development of its facilities in Crinnage and consolidating its position as the largest juvenile club in Ireland with over 600 members.

The next big event for the club will be the Galway Indoor Track & Field on Sunday January 15th in Athlone – athletes and their parents need to confirm to their coaches their preferred events for this over the Christmas period as entries have to be in by early January. The club has booked Athlone IT for a preparation training session on the preceding Sunday 8th January.

Event choices are as follows:

  • U10s: 60m, 400m, Long Jump, Relay
  • U11s: 60m, 600m, Long Jump, Relay
  • U12s: 60m, 600m, Long Jump, Relay, High Jump, Shot Putt, Hurdles
  • U13s: 60m, 600m, Long Jump, Relay, High Jump, Shot Putt, Hurdles
  • U14s: 60m, 600m, Long Jump, Relay, High Jump, Shot Putt, Hurdles, Walk
  • U15s: 60m, 600m, Long Jump, Relay, High Jump, Shot Putt, Hurdles, Walk
  • U16/17s: 60m, 600m, Long Jump, Relay, High Jump, Shot Putt, Hurdles, Walk, 200m
  • U18/19/Adults: 60m, 600m, Long Jump, Relay, High Jump, Shot Putt, Hurdles, Walk, 200m, 3000m

The club would like to thank all members and parents and sponsors for their support throughout the year and will be distributing copies of its annual calendar/directory over the holiday period which has proved to be an invaluable source of funds these last 15 years. And the club would like in particular to thank its hard-working coaches and committee members without whom there would be no club. Over 50 parents are voluntarily giving their time week-in week-out to help out at training and they can be proud of helping the club to become what it is today. The club is always on the lookout for more help though as with over 600 members, it’s a massive challenge to cater for such numbers on a weekly basis. So perhaps parents can consider making a New Year’s Resolution to lend a hand even if not available every week.

A very happy Christmas to all!
