Fierce Competiton at Connacht Schools Cross Country 2023
(thanks to Laura Murray for sending in this report!)
The Connacht Primary Schools Cross Country finals took place in a fairly wet and mucky Tuam Demense last Tuesday and there were some outstanding performances from Craughwell AC Athletes.
First up was the 5th/6th Class Boys which was a fast and tough race. Conor Mannion ran superbly for Craughwell NS finishing in 15th position!
The next race was 5th/6th class girls which was equally as gruelling and we saw great runs by Laoise Corban representing Carrabane NS and Laoise Colleran representing Craughwell NS. The girls finished 28th and 38th respectively.

The 3rd/4th class boys race which had an extremely tough start as the mucky conditions worsened, particularly at the start line and all the turns. As the race began there were numerous falls and pile ups, but that didn’t deter Jack Hibbitt who made it look effortless, running a fast race and finishing in 4th place overall. The final race of the day was the 3rd/4th class girls! This was a very exciting one as the 1st and 2nd placed teams from the Galway finals were Scoil Mhuire Clarinbridge and Craughwell NS, with a total 9 Craughwell AC athletes at Tuam today across these two teams! Muireann Kelly came in 9th place overall! And Ciara Ward in 19th. Clarinbridge held onto their second place team spot finishing 2nd place in Connaught and the Craughwell NS girls not far behind with a 6th place team finish! Emma McGovern who had qualified after her outstanding individual performance in Renmore, came in 26th place representing Gaelscoil de hÍde, Oranmore.
