Galway Senior T&F Series June 2009

The last couple of years has seen the Galway senior track & field championships held in an exciting new format over three Thursday evenings in Dangan. The new format, which was an initiative of Regional Development Officer Paul McNamara, worked brilliantly with greatly improved particpation in the last two years. The format will be much the same again this year and details have been provided by Paul in the attached flyer.

Its an opportunity for people to get a PB over a distance they might not normally run. It might also be an opportunity for some people who only do long distance now because its all thats available to them, but used to be a bit of a sprinter in their youth, to try their hand at a shorter distance.

I think many of our members would enjoy it and would take a bit of pleasure in having e.g. a 200m PB or a 400m PB or being part of a 4×400 relay team etc.. It will give you an appreciation of how fast Usain Bolt really is!! Or maybe have a crack at throwing a shot putt or jumping in the long jump. For any of the technical events though, remember that you'd best practise them in Craughwell first – you don't want to do yourself an injury! Give me a shout if you need a coach – we have plenty of them!

So Craughwell AC senior members, why not chat amongst yourselves to encourage a group to into 1 or all of the days in Dangan to test yourself on the track. If your training partners go in, everyone will have a level of competition with which they are comfortable. Don't let your hard work in getting fit go to waste – try out the track and get your PBs!
