Gerry warms up for Santry with tough 3rd in Hollymount

The cold and blustery conditions didn't deter a large Craughwell contingent from the annual trip to Hollymount Co.Mayo yesterday for one of the highlights events of the Mayo Leage.  Many green and white singlets were in evidence in both the Juvenille race and the Senior races of this high-profile and historic event.   Craughwell's Gerry Ryan was the first Galwayman home, in 3rd place on this occasion behind in-form winner Sean Connolly of Tallaght AC and Brian Maher of KCH, and ahead of Sligo AC's Emmett Dunleavey..

This was a great workout for the great man ahead of his big race next Saturday where he and Peter O'Sullivan don will the national kit in the Home Counties international veterans cross country in Santry.

There were plenty other Craughwell heads in evidence around the course, particularly in the Junior 3k race which was won by our own Peadar Harvey in an excellent 10:05.  Some pictures below courtesy of Michael O'Connell of Sligo AC and Jo Gardiner.

p.s. some people looking at the results might wonder where former Mayo League champion and regular Hollymout attender John Byrne was..?  Well it turned out that he was in Gibraltar at the world 100k championships where he finished in the top 60 in just over 8 hours.  Not my cup of tea but fair play to you John – well done.
