Gold for Craughwell in Galway Cross Country

Enough bling to make Mr.T jealous!

In exceptionally warm October sunshine, Craughwell Senior men scored their first ever county gold just ahead of quite a strong GCH team.  We snuck home a single point in the clear with 21 points to GCH's 22.  Gary Thornton was of course first man home – blazing away into the distance and lapping much of the field.  There were some good runs from all the members of the team.

The very talented Martin Corcoran (2, Senior Silver) was first clubman home – and second Galway senior after Gary – an amazing achievement at the age of almost 47.

Next home for the club with the undoubted run of the day was cross-country debutant Peter O'Sullivan (3, Novice Gold) who was actually the next man home after Martin.  Peter passed two harriers in the last lap and his strong run was the difference between the teams – making a big points difference. Peter has definitely found his calling and I am pretty sure it won't be the last time we see him over the country. The final two places in the Craughwell team were made up by Johnny Lane (6, Senior Bronze) and Mark Davis (10).

We also had an excellent run from Tommy Niland who took silver medal in the novices Category.

Gabriel Gardiner also did great his cross country debut but I didn't get the chance to chat with him yet to see how he found it.  Well done also to Liam Nolan and Diarmuid Quill who did a great job of representing the club on the day.
