Great Racing from Shauna in Dubai

Shauna continues to blaze some fantastic results in Dubai – below is a report from Dad-coach Loic and some early reports from the Dubai Grand Prix. already we see some amazing new PBs from Shauna which can only help her paralympic ambitions! So far her journey has resulted in TWO High Performance Standards (5000m and 100m) and big personal bests in the 1500m and 400m!

Khorfakkan Report

The second leg of the Dubai trip brought us to the eastern city of Khorfakkan which provided a spectacular backdrop for the races. A little bit cooler and still breezy but good racing conditions.
Day 1 of the Khorfakkan WPA International meet saw Shauna race in the 100m and 1500m. First up was the 100m where there was a false start in Shauna’s race. Shauna was then very careful on the second start and could not really get going, time was 17″72 (-1.4ms) and some good learning.

Much later on the same day, Shauna had the 1500m. And unlike in Sharjah, this time the race was a tactical affair with some prize money on the line. The race started quite slow so Shauna hit the front to inject some pace and get things going. The race settled for a while with the girls taking turns on the front. And with about 500m to go there was a surge from the athlete that was sitting at the back, the other girls hesitated and the gap was enough for her to seal the win. Shauna finished with a 3:32″01 and another good race under her belt.

On day 2, Shauna lined up for the 800m and one of the athlete took off from the start, Shauna chased and got back in contact just when another surge came from the back. Shauna stayed in contention and came home in 4th with a time of 1:52″20, consistent racing over the distance. Another very good experience for Shauna and we are now looking forward to the last leg of the trip, the Dubai Grand Prix from Monday 12th to Thursday 15th.

Dubai Grand Prix

The Dubai GP is the main event she has been shooting for and it’s been going brilliantly so far!! Shuana is entered in the following events, with her pre-event PB/club record in brackets:

Day 2:

At time of writing, only the 5000m remains – here are the results so far from Shauna:

1500m – New Personal Best of 3:20.65!

100m New Personal Best of 16.42! High Performance Standard!!

400m – new PB of 56.41!

800m – DNF
Shauna got out well in the 800m race, but caught a valve in one of her pushes and got a flat tyre… and ended up having to pull up – mechanical failure is an unavoidable risk of the sport, but a lot better than an injury!
