Headford Results 2009 Online
In spite of a fairly scummy evening weather-wise, there was another great turnout for this year's Headford 8k. There was a fairly nasty shower as it started but apparently after that it cleared up well for the duration of the race.
Though we had a small Craughwell contingent, they all ran well. Martin Corcoran was first clubman home in 4th position with a time of 27:47, followed closely by Johnny Lane in 5th. Martin also picked up the gong for first vet. Justin Niland made a welcome return in 16th position in 30:17, and Headford regular Diarmuid had a super run finishing in 69th in 35:59.
The race was won in incredible fashion by the ever-awesome Gerry Ryan (GCH) who finished it in 24:58, almost 2 full minutes ahead of national novices medalist Matt Lockett (GCH) with another fast-improving GCH man Tony Scanlon in 3rd 45 seconds back. This was a super time by Gerry in less than ideal conditions on what nobody could describe as a fast course. I am quite sure this is a course record for the race. On this improvement curve, who would bet against him for the Streets of Galway..?
