Impressive Performances at Connacht Schools Combined Events

Athletes from the club competed exceptionally well in the Connacht Schools multi-events on Tuesday 13th Sept in Dangan, with several personal best performances across the range of events. Foremost was Maria McNamara who having hit 6 BPs in the recent international heptathlon event in Stoke, continued her good form with another 4 PBs across the 5 events on Tuesday. There were fine performances also from Ellen Fitzpatrick and Jessica Heneghan in the high jump with both leaping 1.45m for the first time and Ellen coming within millimetres of clearing 1.50m which would have been a 10cm PB! For Jessica, this was her first proper high jump competition having only just started training for it – so to leap 1.45m was very impressive.

The shot putt through up some great performances also – with Maria McNamara again breaking the club record with a 7.78m effort only for Melisssa Mullins to lift the 4kg shot to a huge PB of 8.29m to claim a new club record. Fantastic performances from everyone, with full details below.

In total, 7 athletes from the club qualified for the All-Ireland finals, easily the best performance from the club’s athletes in this event over the years.
