Incredible Standard at Irish Schools Pentathlon
Five athletes from the club battled it out at the weekend in Athlone IT in the Irish Schools Pentathlon Championships in Athlone where there were some exceptional performances and incredibly high points totals.
In an elite Intermediate Girls event, Aisling Keady placed 9th with a points total of 2784 (hurdles 10.07, shot 6.98, long jump 4.83, high jump 1.55, 800m 2.41.25). Aisling’s performance would have been good enough to make the schools international team in 7 of the last 10 years so she was just unlucky that it was an exceptionally high standard this year where most of the international team qualifiers from the last decade would have finished outside the top 4 this year. Lorraine Delaney placed 10th with 2537 points (hurdles 10.30, shot 6.04, long jump 4.56, high jump 1.46, 800m 2.40.03) and Laura Cunningham 11th with 2480 points (hurdles 10.28, shot 6.93, long jump 4.27, high jump 1.52, 800m 2.49.14). Both girls have another year in this age group.
Oisin Lyons placed an impressive 8th in the Junior Boys event with 2600 points (hurdles 9.79, shot 10.19, long jump 4.44, 200m 25.40, 800m 2.04.63) and Ben Garrard placed 12th in the Intermediate grade (hurdles 9.57, shot 7.87, long jump 5.68, 200m 26.10, 800m 2.12.69).
