Jason Broderick wins All-Ireland XC Bronze!
As Craughwell coped with the aftermath of the recent rains, Jason Broderick was among those that headed to Waterford to do battle in the mud at the immmensely competitive National Novices XC Championships. The Galway XC Champion ran a superb race, starting off conservatively to avoid the crush and building through the field from 50th in the first lap to the top 5 as the race progressed. In the end he won an amazing bronze medal, probably the finest individual Senior XC result in the club’s history.
Anyone who knows the popular Loughrea man will be delighted for him – this is richly deserved and a great story. Jason took to the sport about 11 years ago and quickly became one of the leading young lights in Galway athletics, marked as a great prospect. However, just as he started to break through he embarked on many years of struggling with injuries. Most people would have long since quit the sport after the setbacks he has had. He never once gave up and kept trying new treatments, coaching regimes and options, and these have really paid off over the past 3 years where he has really transformed under his coach Ned.
Congratulations Jason!
