Jumpers In Form at Munster Outdoors

A small contingent from the club made the short journey down to Templemore AC’s fine facility for the Munster Senior Outdoors on the Bank Holiday Monday.

In glorious sunshine, Laura Cunningham and Sarah Finnegan hit season’s bests in the triple jump with Laura leaping over the 10m mark on 3 of her jumps with a best of 10.16m on her 4th effort and Sarah leaping a best of 8.98 also on her 4th attempt. Laura’s leap was good enough to take the bronze medal, adding a nice Munster medal to her collection of Galway, Connacht and National medals. Also in action in the jumps, Justin Lane cleared 2.10 in the pole vault, a useful warmup for the upcoming National League.

Top marks to Munster Athletics on a very well organised event. In particular the race numbers which had each athlete’s name printed on them for a nice souvenir for the athletes from the day.

Laura’s jumps from the day after a break on the first jump were 9.87 10.01 10.16 10.05 9.98 – the last shaping up to be the best only for a bit of a stumble as Laura came onto the step, see below. Sarah’s jumps were 8.56 8.87 8.80 8.98 8.80 8.82, leaping around 30cm before the break line each time. Justin’s 2.10m leap is not far off the club’s senior record of 2.20m set by William Finnegan in a decathlon way back in 2010.
