Galway Outdoor Track and Field 2006
A reminder that the Galway Outdoor Track and Field for age groups U9, U10, U11 and U12 takes place this Friday May 5th at 6.30pm in Dangan. If you haven’t been to Dangan before, it is on the Moycullen road – 100 or 200 yards beyond the Westwood Hotel, down a narrow road on the right hand side.
Weather forecast for Friday is “a bright breezy day with sunny spells and occasional heavy or thundery showers”. There is no covered area in Dangan so please come prepared for both sunshine and rain! (have brollies, rain-coats etc in the car!).
The events start with the relays at 6.30pm. Please arrive before 6pm to give us time to organise the athletes into their relay teams and go through the warm-up routine. Please allow extra time for rush-hour traffic in Galway city.
For the older age groups (U13 and older), their track and field takes place on Friday 26th May at 6.30pm in Dangan).
Note also the fixture list at http://www.craughwellac.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=49&Itemid=65 and in particular the dates for Connacht and All-Ireland outdoor track and field:-
§ Sat 10 June, Connacht Outdoor T&F, U9s to 12s, Sligo IT
§ Sat 17 June, Connacht Outdoor T&F, U13s to 19s, Dangan

§ Sat 15 July, National Outdoor T&F Relays U9s to 19s, Cork IT (!)
§ Sun 16 July, National Outdoor T&F U9s to 13s, Cork IT
Based on previous experience, we’re expecting many individuals and relay teams to qualify for national finals, so some people might like to tentatively plan a weekend away in Cork on 15/16 July!
Training Fees at Craughwell Sessions
A reminder to all athletes that training fees are now due for May-July. The club used to collect these fees monthly and still do so in some cases – but the preference is to collect them just 3 times a year – €20 in January for the period Jan-Apr, €15 in May for the period May-Jul and €20 in September for the period Sept-Dec. Some athletes have not paid for the previous 3 months yet – please check with the coordinator at your training session if in doubt as that person keeps a record of payments. This money funds the rental of training facilities, race entries fees, subsidised bus transport, etc and is vital to the club’s finances.
Training Sessions
Training sessions have returned outdoors at Craughwell NS on Thursdays at following times:
§ 6.30pm: U9s and U10s
§ 7:30pm: U11s
§ 8.30pm: U12s and U13s
An additional training session takes place in Coleman’s field on Sundays and Tuesdays at 8pm for U11s, U12s and U13s taking part in middle-distance running. This is only for middle-distance runners at present and is a tough session – if your child is not interested in middle-distance running, they should not attend this session as it only disrupts the session. U12s and U13s should try to make both of these sessions for the next 4 weeks while 1 of these sessions is sufficient for U11s.
Additional relay, jumping and throwing sessions will be organised also over the coming weeks, possibly overlapping with some of above. More information will be given at training on this beforehand.
