Linda Porter romps to victory in Galway Schools Cross-country
Linda Porter romped home to victory in her first Secondary Schools cross-country race in Dangan on Thursday. Linda easily led the field of over 100 runners in the Minor Girls category to take the Galway title in style. Also in fine form in the same race, Katie O'Donoghue took 6th place in perhaps her best ever cross-country performance. Well done to both girls!
In the Junior Girls race, Ashley McDonnell showed a strong return to cross-country form to take 4th place, coming from a long way back to almost snatch the bronze medal but running out of fuel 20m from the end. While in the Junior Boys race, David Concannon had a fine run to take 10th place and hopefully seal a team medal for his school who had 3rd, 10th and 11th in this race.
The club had many athletes in action in addition to the above, including:
– Minor Boys: Brendan Gallagher, PJ Kelly
– Minor Girls: Caoimhe Quill
– Junior Boys: Shaun Gallagher, Ruairi Finnegan
– Intermediate Boys: David Porter
– Intermediate Girls: Sophie Ralston, Maeve Curley
Official results are not yet available – I will update this article when they become available.
There was dissapointment for Athenry VS athletes Niall Rooney, Jack Raftery, Pádraic Tobin and Paul Joyce whose school had to withdraw their teams the day before the competition.
