Little Athletics commencing Thurs 7th April
Craughwell Athletic Club currently provide training sessions for children in first class or older. With the improvements in facilities that we are making, we are planning to go one year younger and introduce a session for Senior Infants on Thursdays 5.30-6.30pm at Craughwell astro-turf commencing on Thursday 7th April.
The session will be known as Little Athletics. It will be structured around games-based activities that teach the children fundamental coordination movements for running, jumping and throwing that are essential for all sports and many other activities. Athletics is widely regarded as the ideal introductory sport for small children because it is so varied and focuses on movement and coordination. It is also a great start to building a regular habit of exercise for children in an environment where the emphasis is on participation as well as self-improvement.
We are also seeking parents who would be interested in getting involved with the coaching of this age group regularly or on a rota basis. No prior experience required as initially existing coaches and older athletes will be assisting. Please don’t be daunted by getting involved – once you know more than the children you are teaching or supervising, you will be fine and will learn from others as you go along. It’s an incredibly rewarding volunteer activity – seeing the kids you coach learn new skills, making friends, having fun and enjoying participating in competitions. If you would be willing to get involved, please contact Michael Tobin at email@example.com or 087 6591879.
Children can come up to 3 sessions to try it out but must register on the 3rd session. Our registration form is at www.craughwellac.com under the menu link for Junior Club and will be handed out on the 3rd session. A reduced fee of €60 will apply for the remainder of the year covering Apr-May-Jun and Sep-Oct-Nov-Dec. This age group will not be training during July and August but will benefit from a discount for our summer camps which will be held on 4-8 July and 15-19 August this year.
