Lots of silverware, CBPs and fun at Day 1 of Connacht Championships
There were some fantastic performances by athletes from the club today on the first day of the Connacht Indoor Track & Field with the highlight being the Championship Best Performance of 1:56.47 set by our U13 Boys when winning the gold in their 4x200m relay with Lincoln King, Sean Colleran, Ruairi McNena and Darragh O’Donnell. Earlier in the day, the U12 girls team almost repeated that feat with a fine silver medal in their 4x200m in a time of 2:08.10 (just 2 hundredths of a second from the old record) with their team of Cerys Johnson, Lauren Kelly, Laoise Colleran and Ruby Maher.

In the sprints, Cormac Kearney took a brace of medals in the Masters Men’s 60m and 200m, winning gold in the 200m in 25.34 and silver in the 60m in 7.85. Lorraine Delaney took silver in the Senior Women’s 400m in 63.57 while Luke Forde did likewise in the Senior Men’s 400m in 54.48 and Siona Lawless was 5th Connacht athlete in the 60m in 8.62. And there was fantastic success earlier in the day with Connacht sprint titles for Lincoln King in the U13 Boys 60m in a time of 8.47 and for Lauren Kelly in the U12 Girls 60m in 9.19. It was unlucky 5th place for Sean Colleran and Ruby Maher in the same events, just missing out on National qualification by a whisker with Sean running a time of 8.60 and Ruby a time of 9.36.
The relays also saw 5th places finishes for the U13 Boys team of Jamie O’Reilly, Ciaran McNena, Jack McNena and Erik Daniels and the U12 Girls team of Lola Whitney-Mangan, Maeve Desbonnet, Reailtin Ward and Penny Forde.

The hurdles races also saw plenty of success for the club with Lincoln King and Kate O’Leary both taking the silver medals in the U13 Boys and Girls age groups in times of 10.16 and 10.94, while Sean Colleran bagged a bronze medal in the U13 Boys event in a time of 10.46 and Maeve Desbonnet did likewise in the U12 Girls event in a time of 11.76. There were a few close misses in the hurdles with Lola Whitney-Mangan and Nathan Quinn both 4th in the U12 events in times of 11.96 and 11.84 and Ruairi McNena 5th in the U13 Boys event in 11.13.
Donal Coyle ran a blistering time of 1.45.85 to take the Connacht title in the U13 Boys 600m, knocking 4 seconds off his recent PB from the Galway Championships in an exceptional performance.

In the jumps, Siona Lawless leaped to a season’s best of 4.68m to win the Senior Women’s Long Jump. Laura Cunningham leaped 9.86m to claim the Connacht title in the Senior Women’s Triple Jump with Sarah Finnegan taking silver with a best of 8.96m.
