The Craughwell AC Marathon run in conjunction with our friends 100 Marathon Club Ireland took place on Saturday 29th of August. Just shy of 50 runners took to the roads to complete the 26.2 miles which is run in loops over the Craughwell AC 5km course.
Conditions were near perfect on the day, with a few cooling showers over the course of the morning. The first set of runners set off at 8.00am with a smaller group taking to the road at 9.00am along with a club half marathon time trial which took place in conjunction with the marathon.
This was a very special day for club members Ann Kelly and Norenna Murrray Morrissey. Having both completed in excess of 25 marathons they each received their Marathon Club Ireland medals to commemorate their wonderful achievement. Ann and Norenna have been running with Craughwell AC for a long number of years and the club would like to take this opportunity to congratulate them on their fantastic accomplishment.
Aideen Gilchrist Gillespie and Aoife Mulane took part in half marathon time trial, both making their debut over this distance. Aideen finished strong in a fantastic time of 1:52, followed closely by Aoife in 2:01 narrowly missing dipping under the 2:00, which is without doubt within her reach. Gauging from the performances by other club members who have their eye on Autumn marathons taking part in the event today, there will be plenty to celebrate on October 26th.
Thanks also to our club members who gave up their time both on the day and for once again providing an amazing selection of baked goods and refreshments for our guests. Your generosity never ceases to surprise us and is greatly appreciated.
There were lots of photographs taken on the day, links to which will be updated here once they become available.
