Moorhead takes Bronze in National U23s

On Sunday Craughwell AC had four competitors in the u23 championships.

Kyle Moorhead was again one of the stand-out athletes – taking the 800m race by the scruff of the neck and leading for the first lap which was run in 60s, a relatively cautious pace for these athletes.  At 500m it really kicked off as the surges came thick and fast.  Kyle did everything possible and came away with a fantastic Bronze for his efforts ahead of some big names.

In the 1500m Craughwell had two competitors – Oisin Davis and Patrick Noonan.  Oisin has been coming into good form since early June, but had been sick in recent weeks and unable to train.  The race was again tactical for the first 800m and Oisin managed to find a good position in the middle of the large 16-man field, with Paddy close behind.  With 400m to go the fireworks kicked off and Oisin managed to stick among the breakaway group of five athletes who gapped the field.  With 150m to run his stride got slightly checked and he just ran out of steam, finishing in a very creditable 5th place 4.01 with Paddy close behind in 9th 4.05.

Luke Forde lined up for the 400m and the popular Craughwell man got out ferociously hard, fighting for every inch.  As he rounded the corner the wind caught him full in the face and he closed home in a solid 54.2.  Watch his race below:
