National Community Games Finals

Several members of Craughwell AC competed in the National finals of the Community Games which were held in Athlone at the weekend. Maria McNamara finished in 5th place in the U16 girls high jump and combined with Maireád McCan, Sineád Gaffney, Ellen Fitzpatrick and Gabrielle Tobin to qualify for the U16 relay final where they finished in 6th place. Jane Trehy had a fine performance in the U10 hurdles to make it to the final also. Darren Lyons took 5th place in his heat of the U10 200m while Grainne McDaid finished 10th in the semi-final of the U14 800m with another year left in this age group.

James Cahalane finished 8th in the U12 boys 600m semi-final, while Aidan Conneely finished 5th in the final of the U14 boys 100m and also led his Ardrahan team to 6th place in the final of the U14 boys relay.

The Craughwell U16 boys relay team made it through the heats and into the semi-final where they finished 6th – the team comprising Conor O’Donoghue, Conor Duggan, Christopher McDonnell, Cathal Reidy and Jamie Spellman. The U16 boys 7k marathon team ran strongly with Conor Gillen, Jamie Spellman, Matthew Moran and John Cormican while Laura Porter helped the U16 girls marathon team take 4th place in their 7k event.
