National Junior Outdoor Title for Cathriona Farrell

National Junior Outdoor Title for Cathriona Farrell

Cathriona Farrell added yet another National title to her collection of silverware at the National Junior (U20) Track & Field Championships in Tullamore. The U20 and U23 competition was combined and Cathriona (an U18 athlete) not only beat all of the U20 competitors but also beat all of the U23s – a fantastic achivement for this rising star.

Cathriona's winning jump was 1.75m – the third time Cathriona has jumped this height and the 2nd time in recent weeks. She then had a crack at 1.78m and came close to scaling what would have been a new PB – but not to be on this occasion. Cathriona will have another go at it in a week's time when she hopes to compete in the Cork City Sports.

Also in the medals, Rachel Finnegan came 3rd in the U20 400m hurdles in a time of 69.5  – a new PB for Rachel. In the U23 100m hurdles, Sarah Finnegan took gold with 17.67m. Special mention also to Laura Shaughnessy from Loughrea AC who won gold in the U20 5000m in a super time of 17.32.52. That time would have put Laura in 11th place out of 476 men and women in the Craughwell 5k that was part of the recent Galway 5k series!
