Next Generation Dominate South Galway 4 Miler

Craughwell AC took Kilcolgan Castle by storm last weekend, taking the spoils in the senior and junior men’s races and in the women’s O40 race as well as 3rd senior and 2nd junior man and 3rd senior woman.

Several of the next generation of Craughwell AC seniors debuted in style in this race with 4 teenagers placing 1st, 3rd, 5th and 6th.

Led by the grand-dad of the group, 19 year old Peadar Harvey retained the title he had won last year in the senior race. Peadar ran a splendid time of 21:34 to take the victory ahead of Conor Dolan by 7 seconds.

Had there being a team prize, Craughwell would have cruised to victory with 16 year old Neil Greaney taking 3rd place in a time of 22:18 and 15 year olds Damien O’Boyle and Keelan Ryan taking 5th and 6th place overall in times of 23:26 and 24:09 and in the process taking 1st and 2nd place in the junior category. To say these times are impressive is an understatement and hugely encouraging for the future, particularly when you consider these guys are part of a squad of over 20 talented teenage distance runners.

Also featuring in the prizes, Mary Kealy was the 3rd woman home in a time of 27:24 while Anne Moran took the O40 title in a time of 28:53.
