Northern Ireland Masters High Jump Title!
Well done to Diarmuid Quill who travelled north at the weekend to compete in the Northern Ireland Masters Track and Field and won the High Jump title with a clearance of 1.55m.
There are rumours that with this victory under his belt, Diarmuid will be making a comeback in the Irish Master's high jump next year and attempting to regain his Irish title won in 2005. Absent from the competition this year due to the Streets of Galway 8k, Diarmuid's focus may shift back to the high jump for next year. I don't know if this is good news or bad news for his cross-country and road-running colleagues as it means less (or no?) time on the road! But very positive for the club to have a Masters National Champion in their midst.
Congrats to Loughrea AC's Pat Hannon also in the NI Masters event where he won the titles in both the 800m and 1500m events. By all accounts, this is part of Pat's preparation for the Loughrea 5k race at end of September where he will go head to head with some notable local runners to avenge his narrow defeat in that race last year :-).
