Recent run of good results from Damian stateside.

Well it’s some time since we waved Damian off to the states Did we think it was out of sight out of mind. Well no. It really was up to me to keep you informed of his exploits (athletic related) and I have been very poor in my role up to now. I will try to make a better effort from now on.

One week after Christmas break McNeese hosted it’s first of two home indoor meets.

Damian competed in the mile (1609m) on Friday 13th Jan where he ran a time of 4.17.01 which was officially converted to 4.13.78 as McNeese like many other facilities in the U.S. hosts a flat indoor track without any banking on the turns. (due to flat track NCAA gives a conversion to banked track) This result is not only the fastest time by any member of the club. (Mr Tobin can verify this but I have checked the records and can’t find any indoor record for mile) but also stood as the leading Conference mark for 2 full weeks until McNeese Indoor #II on Friday 27th Jan. where his own older team mates surpassed this mark. What an achievement especially considering that Damian is still just a freshman and one of the youngest athletes in the school and the conference.

At the McNeese Indoor #II Damian competed in the 800m and romped home in a time of 1.57.51 converted to 1.55.86 to finish second in a race where his team mate Olandis Johnson broke both the school and complex records both of which had stood for 30 years. What a fantastic achievement for both young men.

Next weekend Damian will travel as part of a select squad from McNeese to compete at the Meyo Invitational which will be held at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana.

Well done Damian. Keep up the good work. Updates will follow.
