Running roundup October by Noel Gorman & Aideen Gillespie

Running roundup October by Noel Gorman & Aideen Gillespie

Well done to Declan O Leary who completed another Major marathon in Chicago earlier in October not long after completing Berlin- well done Declan!

Fantastic day as always at the Dublin Marathon 2018 with regards to the support, Atmosphere and organisation.

Perfect running conditions for our twenty two club members as Dublin proves to be a popular race among newbies and experienced marathon runners.
The timely start is always great in Dublin as the 20k participants are so eager just to get running after the tapering nightmare and the mind playing games in preparation for the main day.
Congratulations to all our club members who all made it across the line;

First in for the club and congrats with a new club record was Kevin Mooney in a time of 2.32:59
Seriously impressive running by Kevin who was rallied on by his family and friends.
The club are delighted for Kevin after his intensive training regime paid him dividends.

Second and third for the club were John Melia and Brian Matthews both achieving a Pb on the day!

First three ladies for club were Katie Gorman, Kay Touhy and Cathriona leen.
Fantastic running by all.

Brian and Katie Gorman rocked up and completed another marathon not long after their “hotter” marathon this month in Budapest. Great performances by both as always!

Huge congrats to all our first time marathoners from the club, everyone remembers their first!
Aideen Gillespie, Dave Callanan, Declan Craven, Treasa Callanan, Marita Carolan, Aisling Roche and Dean Roche all arriving home safe and sound.
Aideen made a comeback from a back injury in the middle of the year to complete her first marathon.
Dean and Aisling have hit the debut marathon scene hard by racking up quite a few very tough half marathons during the year.
Treasa Callanan who earned a sub four finish for her first marathon is superb accomplishment.
Dave Callanan started running last year at fit 4 life – to complete a marathon within the year is an amazing and inspirational achievement.

Kevin Mooney, Brian Matthews, John Melia, Sharon Gilligan, Fiona Gleeson and Cathriona Leen all earned impressive PBs on the day after all their hard work.

Aoife Mullane was unlucky not to get to the start line this year with a late injury after all her hard training. We have no doubt that we will see Aoife in the near future fulfilling her goal and we will be there to cheer her on!

Special mention to our neighbour Jane Ann Meehan who finished well under the 3 hour mark in 2:50.30 and finished fourth place nationally in her category. Well done Jane Ann!

Our club was also represented in the Frankfurt marathon on the same day as Dublin with Piotr Prokop coming in well under the 3hour mark.
We have all admired Piotr’s pace as we witness him regularly at the 400m club track so the club are delighted for him for achieving his running goals.

Last but not least special mention to all friends and family of Craughwell AC who supported the club members along the way and on the day of the Marathon(s)!
