Scaling New Heights!
Saturday's National Indoor Combined Events proved a momentus occasion for the club and Cathriona Farrell as she sailed over a new PB of 1.72m in the U16 Pentathlon. Cathriona's recent form in training and in competition hinted that a big jump was in the offing, with recent clearances in training in Claremorris at the 1.70m height and having jumped 5 clean jumps at the Galway Indoors the previous week up to and including 1.68m.
Her high jump performance helped Cathriona to silver medal in the pentathlon, behind Orla Finn from Cork.
Also in action in the same age group were Rachel Finnegan and Sophie Ralston who both put in good performances across the range of events. Results for the 3 Craughwell athletes were as follows:
Cathriona:

Significantly for Cathriona, her high jump mark is believed to have equalled the mark set by current National Senior record holder, Deirdre Ryan from DSD AC, when competing in the same age group in 1997.
