Schools high jump title for Cathriona Farrell

Cathriona Farrell's winning ways continued earlier this month when winning the Intermediate Girls high jump at the Irish Schools National Finals in Tullamore. Cathriona won the event with an outdoor PB of 1.71m, clearing the bar on the first attempt at each height on the way up. Attempting to clear 1.76m for the first time, Cathriona narrowly failed on this occasion. Competing in the schools long jump finals for the first time in 2 years, Cathriona leaped a PB there also – jumping 5.25m to take 4th place in a high quality competition. Maeve Curley (Seamount Kinvara) took the bronze medal in the Intermediate Girls 2000m Walk in a PB time of 10.15.02.

Ruairi Finnegan's (Gort CS) performance in the Junior Boys 800m was breathtaking, knocking a huge 6 seconds off his PB and coming home in 6th place in a time of  2.08.67. In the Junior Boys High Jump, Niall Rooney (Athenry VS) soared to a PB when clearing 1.60m to finish in 7th place. Tomas Keehan (Gort CS) equalled his PB of 1.70m to take 6th place in the Intermediate Boys High Jump. In the Junior Girls 200m, Ashley McDonnell (Pres Athenry) took 8th place in a time of 28.18. In the Intermediate Girls Triple Jump, Rachel Kenny (Pres Athenry) took 8th place with a jump of 9.47m.
