Seniors on form this summer.
Craughwells senior Athletes are enjoying a rich vein of form over the summer months.
Mark Davis has been in fine form taking his first road race of the season in the Annaghdown 10k. Mark took the top step on the podium in a remarkable time of 33:50 and setting a new PB, to top that he went on to take the Headford 8k No1 spot in a time of 26:42 only a few weeks later.Great stuff Mark, we expect nothing less now!
Johnny Lane is going from strength to strength and now regularly mixes it with the top
runners around Galway, having broken 17 minutes for the 5000m on the track earlier this month Johnny went on to the Maree 5k and repeated that feat on the road. All the hard work in training is really paying dividens now .Remarkable running from Johnny! Keep it up.
Justin Niland has only been running road races since December 07.Justin set his 10k PB in Athenry St Stephens day of 43:26 and since has smashed through the 40 minute barrier several times in the last few months culminating in a massive effort in Annaghdown running it in a time 37:52. Justin has produced brilliant times race on race and is an inspiration to us all.Watch out Mark Justin is on his Way.
One of our most recent recruits Patrick Holohan, with only two 5k races under his belt took on Balla last week, generally considered the toughest 10k course around Patrick finished in a time of 38:20 he too has leaped into the sub 40 club on his very first 10k outing. Fantastic running so far and great things to come from Patrick too No Doubt!
Barry Phelan has returned to running this year after a few years break and is making great inroads. Barry is the only member of our club who competes in triathlons, the combined training of cycling swimming and running has been showing in Barry’s times knocking chunks off every time out and relentlessly closing in on his previous form. Keep up the hard work Barry it’s certainly paying off.
Maurice Headd has been very busy this year and training had to take a back seat for a while but last week he made a welcome return to racing in the Boston scientific 5k and came home in a time of 21:15 close to his PB for the distance.Well-done Maurice! Nice run & welcome back.
Johnny Nevin has been running for the club since October 07 and has been making steady improvements race on race, in Maree last week Johnny set a new PB for 5k, he ran 22:43 slicing off another 24 seconds and closing in on 4:30 per k, Additional mileage and some interval work has proved beneficial this summer.
