Athletes from Craughwell AC enjoyed outstanding success at the South Connacht Schools Track and Field last week, with dozens making it through to the Connacht finals later in May. There were victories for the following in their events:-
Minor Girls 100m Caoimhe O’Donoghue (Calasantius), Long Jump Siona Lawless (St Raphael’s), 4x100m Calasantius (Ciara Murphy, Finola Kelly, Rachel Hannify, Caoimhe O’Donoghue); Junior Girls 100m and 200m Michelle Duggan (Pres), Long Jump Laura Cunningham (Pres), 4 x100m Pres Athenry (Laura Cunningham, Niamh Hannon, Aoife Walshe, Michelle Duggan); Intermediate Girls 100m and 200m Sinead Treacy (St Raphael’s), 1500m Ciara Greene (Bower), 3000m Caron Ryan (St Raphael’s), Long Jump and High Jump Aisling Keady (Pres), Triple Jump and Javelin Ellen Fitzpatrick; Minor Boys 200m Sean Delaney (Cal), 1500m Oisin Lyons (Cal); Junior Boys Shot Putt Cian Waters (Pres); Intermediate Boys 100m Aidan Conneely (Cal),1500m Oisin Doyle (Cal), Long Jump Matthew McKernan (Cal); Senior Men: 100m and 200m Conor Duggan (Pres) , 800m Conor Gillen (Athenry VS), 1500m Damian O’Boyle (Cal).

The club’s athletes took a clean sweep of the medals in the girls long jump in both minor and junior girls categories with Siona Lawless 1st in the minor girls, Finola Kelly (Cal) 2nd and Ciara Murppy (Cal) 3rd and Laura Cunningham 1st in the junior girls, Lorraine Delaney (Cal) 2nd, Caoilin Milton (Cal) 3rd and Aoife Walshe (Pres) 4th. Shauna Tobin took 6th place in the minor shot putt while Gavin Forde (Pres) took 3rd place in the minor long jump. Sean Delaney (Cal) had a good victory in the 200m and followed this up with victory in the high jump where Conan McCann also qualified. Jerry Keary (St Raphael’s) qualified in the junior high jump as did Aoife Walshe (Pres), Lorraine Delaney (Cal) and Laura Keane (Cal). Conor O’Donoghue resumed his athletics career with a strong performance to place 3rd or 4th in the intermediate long jump. In the triple jump, there was automatic qualification for Laura Cunningham (Pres) and Matthew McKernan (Cal),

Elsewhere on the track, Caolin Milton placed 3rd in the hurdles and featured on the Calasanctius 4x100m junior girls’ team that took silver in their final along with Lorraine Delaney, Laura Keane and GCH’s Laura Nally. Dearbhaile Walsh (Seamount) placed 2nd in the junior 1500m and also qualified in the 200m while Grainne McDaid and Mary Dunphy (both representing the Pres Athenry) took 3nd and 3rd in the intermediate 800m. Grainne also featured strongly on the Pres relay team that took the silver medals in their 4x100m along with Ellen Fitzpatrick, Shannen Lee and Aisling Keady. Fiona Commins took 6th place in the minor 1500m while Ciara O’Boyle placed 5th in the junior 1500m. Cillian Dolan (Pres) took double silver in the junior 100m and 200m while Daniel Callanan-Forde (St Raphael’s) placed 3rd in the 200m and 2nd in the long jump. In the intermediate grade, Aidan Conneely (Cal) took 2nd place in the 200m while in the senior 100m Kelvin Oleyemi (Athenry VS) placed 3rd. John Cormican (Cal) took 2nd place in the intermediate 400m with Conor Gillen (Athenry VS) doing likewise in the senior 1500m. Jamie Fallon (Cal) gained automatic qualification in the senior 5000m.
