Strong Performances at Scottish Pentathlon Championships

Two athletes from Craughwell AC made the short journey to Glasgow for the Scottish Indoor Pentathlon Championships.
In the U17 girls' event, Maria McNamara was up against a high standard of competition with 2 of the Scottish international schools team in action against her. Maria got off to a flying start with a PB of 7.29m with the 4kg shot putt, a PB of 10.11 in the 60m hurdles and yet another PB of 4.88m in the long jump, leaving her positioned 4th overall at this stage. In the high jump, Maria was very unlucky to clip the bar with her heels at 1.51m despite a hugh leap that was 15 or more cm over the bar and exited at that height. Placed 5th going into the final event, Maria ran a strong 800m in a time of 2:49.28 to take 5th place overall with a points tally of 2610 points – a very good performance with still another year left in this age group.
Well done also to Sarah Finnegan who put in a strong performance in the Senior Women's event to take the bronze medal with a score of 2344 points with 10.30 in the 60m hurdles, 1.45m in the high jump, 6.30m in the shot putt, 4.46m in the long jump and 2.54.96 in the 800m.

Also check out my new favourite Scottish band who were playing in the streets of Glasgow on Monday! It takes a minute for the band to warm-up but once they get going, you'll enjoy it!
