Super weekend for Craughwell AC
It was a fantastic weekend weather-wise and the results were also great for Craughwell AC senior athletes. The Club made its annual trip to Claregalway on Saturday and were rewarded with Silver in the team category. The first 4 home of Peter O'Sullivan, Johnny Lane, Tommy and Justin Niland were rewarded with a Silver medal in the Galway team category.
There were also great runs from the rest of the club athletes – there were a total of 20 Craughwell finishers and 8 were home under 40 minutes. The great performances continued on Sunday at the National Masters Track and Field.
As expected Gerry Ryan ran home alone to win the 5K title, he won his M45 title but would also have won any of the age categories, finishing in 15:13, showing that he is coming back to fitness well.
The most excitingfinish of the day was in the 1500m where Peter O'sullivan came from 3rd place to pip the leader on the line. After the photo finish results came up, he was given the Gold Medal in a time of 4:20. This was a great result especially given that led the mens team home the previous night over 10k.
Other competitors for the club were Eamon Watters in the throws and Thomas Porter in the 5k/1500m – no word back yet on how it went for them so if anyone has any news post a comment.
