Craughwell AC were well represented in the National juvenile track and field finals in Tullamore. The top performance came from Tara McNally who raced to a superb bronze medal in the U14 80m sprint. Tara’s time of 10.63 was 0.19 away from the winning time.
Also in action, Aisling Keady-Cummins was unlucky to take 4th place in the U13 high jump with a leap of 1.35m which equalled the bronze medallist’s jump but lost out on count-back of knocked bars. Aisling also put in a great performance in the long jump when taking 6th place with a jump of 4.44m, with Emma Gaffney also doing well when finishing 12th with a big PB of 4.24m.
Maireád McCan had a big performance in the U17 girls long jump when taking 6th place with a new PB of 5.12cm, only 15cm away from the medals. Jerry Keary was another who tied with the bronze medallist in the U12 high jump with a leap of 1.30m but lost out on a medal on countback. Sean Delaney and Cillian Doyle took 6th and 7th place in the same event with jumps of 1.25m.
In the U17 3000m, Matthew Moran had a fine run to place 5th in a time of 10.08.90 while Finn Stoneman placed 8th in the U17 3000m in 10.05.15.In the U13 boys 600m, James Cahalane ran a huge PB of 1.47.48 to take 10th place while Damien O’Boyle also had a superb run in the U15 boys 800m final when finishing 8th in a time of 2.12.66. Nicholas Sheehan ran a new PB to finish 10th in the U16 800m in 2.10.23. Sineád Gaffney had a busy weekend placing 12th in the U17 long jump with 4.62m and 8th in the U17 800m in a time of 2.30.35 which followed a fine performance earlier in the day when she placed 4th in her heat of the U17 300m in a time of 44.88.
There were many other fine performances in the jumps and throws including Christopher McDonnell 15th in the U15 shot putt with a throw of 8.09m, Nathan Lynshey 13th in U13 javelin with 19.14m and 13th in long jump with 3.53m, Michelle Duggan 12th in U13 javelin with 15.42, Shonagh Gilligan 15th in U13 javelin with 11.01m, Matthew McKiernan 10th in U14 long jump with 4.14m, Claire Ryder 11th in U16 long jump with 4.70m, Melissa Mullins 13th in U17 long jump with 4.50m, Damien O’Boyle 10th in U15 high jump with 1.45m, Sinead Treacy 11th in U15 long jump with a PB of 4.30m, Tara McNally 7th in U14 hugh jump with 1.35m, Ellen Fitzpatrick 9th in U15 high jump with a new PB of 1.40m, Andrew O’Boyle 13th in U14 javelin with 22.47m, Laura Cunningham 10th in U12 girls long jump with 3.79m and Aoife Walsh 12th with 3.60m, Aoife and Laura 10th and 12th in the high jump with 1.15m, Peter Martin 7th in the U12 boys long jump with a big jump of 4.23m and Sean Delaney 10th with a PB of 3.87m, Cian Waters 7th in the U12 shot putt with 8.07m and Mark O’Brien 12th with 6.95m, and Stephen O’Connor 15th in U12 ball throw with 33.50m.
