The roads are just packed
The road race scene around Galway has never been so bouyant as this year (at least in my memory). Possibly a side-effect of these recessionary times – most people can afford a pair of runners, and charities are needing more help than ever with fund-raising. Here are just a few upcoming local races for your calendar that are worth mentioning:
Sunday 22nd Feb: Fit4Life 5k on in Craughwell at 1:00PM.
Saturday 28nd Feb: Kilconieron 8k (new race!)
Sunday 1st March: Adare 10k
Sunday 8th March: Ballinrobe 8k
Sunday 22nd March: Connemarathon
Sunday 5th April: Ballinasloe 10k (new race!)
It’s great to see all these races appear in the calendar in what was traditionally a quiet period in road-racing.
On a side-note – this isn’t an official race but on Sunday morning next (22 Feb) at 10:30 AM we are having an unofficial “directors” race in Craughwell seeing as the 5k signs will be up for the Fit4Life race. This will be timed, but results not published on the web. Entry is free and all are welcome to take part – the only criteria is that you should be able to complete the course in 20 mins or less as we want it to be fairly fast.
