Huge congratulations to the Connacht athletes in action at the European Youth Olympics on some exceptional performances in Utrecht in the last few days:-

• Galway’s Laura Anne Costello who today won GOLD with the 4x100m relay team who won the European title in a new Irish National Youth record.
• Sligo’s William Crowe who had a fantastic performance earlier in the week to win SILVER in the 1500m, breaking 4 minutes for the first time.
• Sligo’s Cian McBride who easily qualified for the 800m final but just got pipped for a medal today by 0.4 seconds in a sprint finish, taking 5th place with 1.56.61.
• Swinford’s Michaela Walsh who finished 10th in the shot putt.

It is huge encouragement for athletes in our own club and other clubs who have competed regularly against these super athletes to see how well they did on the European stage.
